TATTOO GUIDE · PUNE
How do I care for my new tattoo?
The tattoo is finished, but the skin still has work to do. Good aftercare helps your tattoo heal properly and gives you the best chance of keeping it looking good.
KEEP IT CLEAN
Keep it clean
Follow the aftercare instructions your artist gives you. In general, a fresh tattoo needs to be kept clean and treated gently while the skin heals.
Don't scrub it, pick at it or keep touching it unnecessarily.
MOISTURISE AS ADVISED
Moisturise as advised
Your artist can tell you what product and routine to use for your tattoo. The goal is to support healing without irritating the skin or constantly covering it in product.
If something feels wrong or your skin reacts badly to a product, stop and ask a healthcare professional.
SUN AND SWIMMING
Sun and swimming
UV exposure can fade tattoo ink over time. Once your tattoo has healed, protecting tattooed skin from the sun is part of looking after it.
While it is healing, avoid swimming and other activities that your artist tells you to avoid. A fresh tattoo needs time to close and heal.
PEELING IS NOT AN INVITATION TO PICK
Peeling is not an invitation to pick
Some peeling, flaking and changes in appearance can happen while a tattoo heals. Let the skin do its thing.
Picking or scratching can interfere with healing. If you are unsure whether something is normal, ask rather than guessing.
WHEN TO GET HELP
When to get help
If you develop a persistent or worsening rash, significant swelling, unusual discharge, severe pain or another symptom that concerns you, contact a healthcare professional.
Tattoo aftercare advice is not a substitute for medical advice.
ONE MORE QUESTION?
Still unsure?
That's exactly what a conversation with the artist is for.
How long does a tattoo take to heal?
Healing varies with the tattoo and the person. Your artist can give you aftercare instructions specific to your tattoo, and you should follow them rather than relying on a fixed timetable.
